# Welcome to Oten Note

**Oten Note** is an end-to-end encrypted note-taking app for iPhone. Your notes — their text, titles, and even their timestamps — are encrypted on your device before anything is saved or synced. The server only ever stores scrambled ciphertext. **Not even Oten can read your notes.**

This handbook is concise and practical. Use the path that fits you:

* **New here?** Start with [What is Oten Note](/note-support/introduction/what-is-oten-note.md) and [Install & Onboarding](/note-support/introduction/install-and-onboarding.md).
* **Want the core ideas fast?** Read [Concepts in 1 Minute](/note-support/concepts-in-1-minutes/end-to-end-encryption-e2ee.md).
* **Trying to get something done?** Jump to the [Playbooks](/note-support/playbooks/first-time-setup.md).
* **Stuck or curious?** Check the [FAQ](/note-support/faq/security-and-privacy.md).

> **The one idea to remember:** encryption and decryption happen only on your device. If you lose your PIN *and* your Recovery Key, no one — including Oten — can get your notes back. That trade-off is the point.
