# Default Key Setup

### **Objective**

Establish a seamless encryption experience for Google Workspace by designating a default encryption key that automatically protects your documents, spreadsheets, and presentations without manual key selection.

### **Function Purpose**

* **Streamlined User Experience**: Eliminate the need to manually select keys for each encryption operation
* **Automatic Protection**: Ensure all Google Workspace content is encrypted by default
* **Simplified Onboarding**: New users can start securing documents immediately with zero configuration

### **Current MVP Limitation**

**Single Active Key Policy**:

* Only one default key can be active per user at any time
* If you belong to multiple workspaces, the **most recently set default key** will be used for all wrap/unwrap operations
* This ensures consistent encryption behavior but may not align with multi-workspace segregation needs

### **Setup Impact**

* Once configured, all your Google Workspace documents will automatically use this key for encryption
* No additional key selection required during document creation or editing
* Manual key override options will be available in future releases
